Explore Greenwich with Beks in the City

Hi, I’m Beks in the City. I’m here to show you how to explore Greenwich from both land and air! 🚠🚶‍♂️

Whenever I have a free day in London, it’s instantly designated as a “London Adventure Day”. That means putting on some good walking shoes and picking a new area of the city to explore. This time the spotlight is on the Royal Docks and Greenwich – using the IFS Cloud Cable Car as my mode of transport of choice!

📍Royal Docks

There’s so much going on around the Royal Docks. From free outdoor art, watching the wildly steep takeoffs of the planes from London City Airport, and even wakeboarding. Personally, I’ll be waiting for the next heatwave before giving that a go! 🥶

📍IFS Cloud Cable Car

After exploring the area, head to the IFS Cloud Cable Car for one of my favourite views of the city, and a totally underrated one at that. 🤩

You pass over the Royal Docks on your way to North Greenwich with views along the Thames to Canary Wharf like you’ve never seen before.

📍North Greenwich

When you descend into North Greenwich, you’ll find yourself on The Line Public Art Walk. This is a collection of sculptures by some big names in the art world!

If you follow the Thames Path anticlockwise around the peninsula, you’ll get to see at least six sculptures with some really interesting commentary on the history of the area.  With the backdrop of the Thames, the old fishing houses on Isle of Dogs, and the dominating high rises of Canary Wharf, it’s such a unique experience.

📍Greenwich Park and Village

If you continue your walking tour along the Thames Path towards Greenwich, you’ll definitely be rewarded for your efforts!

Stop for refreshments in any of the cosy historical pubs or an ice cream from Greenwich Market. Every time I go to Greenwich I have to walk to the top of Greenwich Park to catch that epic view of London. You can see the Shard and St Paul’s Cathedral to Canary Wharf, with the Maritime Museum and Greenwich Park in the foreground. It really is something special!

📍Make it a loop!

If you want to end where you started, you can take the Uber Boat by Thames Clippers. Hop on from the Cutty Sark back to North Greenwich. You can then use your return pass on the IFS Cloud Cable Car to get back to the Royal Docks. Alternatively, you can take the DLR from Cutty Sark to Royal Victoria. I like to sit at the front for the full East London Rollercoaster experience.
