Festive days out on the river

The most wonderful time of the year is upon us! And what better way to take in London’s Christmas icons than on the river. 💦 From ice skating to famous winter markets, there’s so much to see. We’ve pulled together our favourite festive days out on the river.🤗

⛵️ Festival Pier

Sail to South Bank where you can find their famous Winter Market. Stroll along the Thames under the twinkling lights and enjoy all of the seasonal goodies on offer from the traditional alpine-style chalets! ☃️  You’ll be sure to have a tree-mendous time 🎄 😉

⛵️ Greenwich Pier

You snow the drill, ice skating during the festive season is a must. ⛸ Fit for a royal, the Queen’s House Ice Rink is perfect for injecting a little Christmas spirit into your day! The rink surrounds the historic Queen’s House. In 1616, James I commissioned it as a gift for his wife, Anne of Denmark. The beautiful building provides the perfect backdrop. Take the river to reach this rink set in a UNESCO World Heritage Site. ⛵️

⛵️ North Greenwich Pier

If you’re looking for a festive day out, head to North Greenwich for the IFS Cloud Cable Car, You’ll be treated to spectacular views of the river and London skyline. After you’ve soaked up the city views, travel west to Embankment pier. Alight here and wander over to Covent Garden where you can pick out the perfect gift for under the tree, 🎁 or take in the giant mistletoe chandeliers in the famous piazza. ✨ If you’re lucky, you’ll even be treated to a white Christmas, with flurries of snow falling every day from 12pm to 7pm! ☃️

As the nights draw in, most of the river operators run illuminated river boat tours, perfect for seeing London at it’s most sparkly! ✨

If you’re not shopped out, hop on one of these bus routes and continue your festive day in the city!
