Great outdoor activities to try

Group of people on two pedlows, one is a swan and one is a car.

When the sun’s shining there’s no better time to go off the beaten track and do something outdoors! ☀

From going on a pedalo date with your loved one ❤️, to taking the kids to feed the animals at the farm 🐖, there are loads of summer activities for you to enjoy in London.

Plus, if you travel around London at weekends, on bank holidays, between 9:30 and 15:59, and after 19:00 on weekdays (off-peak), you’ll get the best value for your fare. 👏

So, give these activities in London a go!

Alexandra Palace boating lake

Glide along the water in a dragon, swan or VW Beetle pedalo at the Alexandra Palace boating lake.

Or, if pedalling isn’t your thing, take the rowing boats 🚣 for a ride and soak up your picturesque surroundings.

Dalston Eastern Curve Garden

Step out of the hustle and bustle and into the tranquil Dalston Eastern Curve Garden.

With lots of flowers, plants and wildlife to admire, you can bring a picnic or grab a drink from the café in this relaxing spot. 🌼

Roof East

Like playing crazy golf? How about playing 9-holes on top of an old Stratford car park? Give it a shot ⛳ at Roof East.

This hidden gem offers golf for all ages and much more – baseball batting cages, yoga classes, lawn bowls and an outdoor cinema.

Plus, there’s street-food 😋 and free entry for great views over London.

Hampstead Hill Garden and Pergola

Go back in time when you visit Hampstead Hill Garden and Pergola.

Built in 1905 by Lord Leverhulme, this historical garden has beautiful raised walkways with hanging plants, a Grade II listed pergola and plenty of greenery to lose yourself in. 🌱

Adventure Playground at Peckham Rye Park

Let the kids play all day at the brand new Adventure Playground at Peckham Rye Park.

Remember to take swimming costumes as kids can splash around, play with the water pumps and watch water trickle down streams – the perfect way to cool down. 💦

There’s also sand pits, tunnels and swings to keep them entertained. All for free! 👍

Deen City Farm

Feel like you’re a million miles away from the capital at Deen City Farm. Surrounded by beautiful countryside, you can see over 100 animals – from Poppy the cow to lots of baby chicks. 🐤

A perfect (free!) day out for couples and families, the farm is located in the National Trust’s Morden Hall Park. So, when you’re finished making furry friends at the farm, you can take a stroll through the wilderness. 🌳

  1. Some great ideas here but there are so many great things to do in London it is almost an impossible job listing them. My top five are:
    1) Taking a ride on the Emirates Air Line (not strictly an outdoor activity but you get some great views of the great outdoors from the cars
    2) Walking the Thames from Westminister to Tower Bridge. This is the best walk if you are short of time and need to see as much as possible in one day
    3) Watching a play in the open air at Shakespeare’s Globe
    4) Taking a boat out on the lake at Hyde Park
    5) Having a picnic on Hampstead Heath.
